Hi Y'all,
It is 10:55pm and I am about to go to sleep on Monday. The past couple of days have been good. Yesterday after I got back from Seoul, I had a nice time because I played catch with one of the international students and then played 3 on 3 basketball with some Korean students and staff. That was really fun. I hope to play a lot while I am here. I met some very nice Korean students as they arrived on campus for the start of the semester.
Something interesting hit me yesterday. When I was at Rosseau Lake College (RLC) in the 9th grade there were many students who came to study there from Korea. I did not get along with them. Why? I stole from them and actually got in a fight with one guy. Therefore, my view of Koreans was not too positive. Whose fault was that, mine. The guys and girls I meet here are such kind people. The only reason why I didn't get along with them at RLC was because I was such a little prick. But everyone I have met here so far has been kind and generous. For instance, we were at a bar the other night in Seoul and the Korean guy was ordering for everyone. I told him I didn't drink so he made sure that the waiter brought me a nice cold glass of water. Or when I met my roommate today, he instantly gave me a hug and was so happy to meet me (even though he barely speaks English. I have met other people and they say right away "I hope we become good friends". In America, if I met college students for the first time and they were giving me hugs and telling me they hope we become good friends, I would think they were a little weird just as the rest of the population probably would. So it is nice to see the intant kindness. In Korea, I don't think they use the term "gay" to make fun of people who are just showing genuine kindness which is a very good thing. Anyways, the fact that I had a bad experience with the Korean students at RLC plays a small significance in this journey because I am a different person now and I am gratefull for that.
So today I started class. I had Korean speaking and Korean Business and Economy. Speaking class was cut short because they had an opening semester ceremony for the freshman (something we also don't do in America.) It was a great experience. Unfortunately, I did not bring my camera so I could not take pictures but it was awesome. The President gave a speech with a small part in English directed at us! Korean people really take pride in education which I think is great. Not too much to report on the classes. We just did some introductory stuff.
Well that is all for now. I am quite tired so I'm off to get ready for bed. I miss all of you who are reading this very much. I hope everyone is well wherever you are and please feel free to write me emails. I love getting them just like letters at Excel. I may not write back but I figure this blog is my way of writing back to everyone. Good bye for now. Oh, yeah one more thing. I got my laundry done today by the lady downstairs and she rules! She does not speak English but has the biggest smile I have ever seen and I can tell she is just a sweetheart. I took her my clothes at 1:30, and they were done by 7:30. Washed, dried and folded and they smell so wonderful. I am very thankful for th laundry lady! Ok now that's it. Bye bye.
